Pain Doré (french toast)

March 18th, 2014

There are a few recipes that I’ve had in my head ever since I was 10 years old. I don’t know if it’s a coincidence but they are all breakfast recipe; omelet, crêpes and pain doré.  Back then, I measured even less than I do now and this is one of the recipes that I just never measure. So keep in mind that the measures are approximate, but that just means that you can use this as a base.

Also, I’ve never actually looked up a french toast recipe before so hopefully this is kind of like the real thing? I don’t know, I just know that my family and I have enjoyed this particular one for many years.

This recipe  is for 2-3 people

  • 2 eggs
  • splash of milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • butter, for the pan
  • 3-4 slices of bread or 5-6 slices of baguette

  1. Beat the eggs, milk and vanilla together.
  2. Melt butter in a pan on medium-high heat. Dip the bread in the egg mixture and brown the bread on both sides in the pan.
  3. Serve with maple syrup and fresh fruit.
