Transforming yogurt into Greek yogurt

April 23rd, 2012

Lately my little Loïc has been eating a whole lot of Greek yogurt. We go through 2-3 tubs per week! He loves that stuff and I love that it is so good for him. What I don’t like, however, is how expensive it is starting to get. I am planning on making my own Greek yogurt from scratch but for now I am taking the easy way.

  • 1 kg Plain Yogurt

  1. Place a 4 layers of cheesecloth (or coffee filter) over a fine mesh sieve. Deposit mesh sieve on top of a deep bowl.
  2. Pour the yogurt into the sieve and cover with plastic wrap (or a plate).
  3. Place in the refrigerator and let the whey drain for 6 hours (or overnight to make labneh), transfer to a airtight container and mix. Keeps in refrigerator for a week.
  4. You can always add honey, vanilla or maple syrup at this point.

I used to do the same, it’s delicious with strawberries or waffles!
