You must be saying “wow, vanilla sugar, when would I ever use that?” Let me answer your question with another question: when would you not use it? Now you have no excuse unless you hate vanilla and if that is the case, get out! I’m kidding (no, I’m not).
Vanilla sugar is great in coffee, tea, vanilla cakes, any baked goods etc
Have you ever used vanilla beans in recipe? no? start now! However if you’re like me and use it fairly often, please do not throw away the pods or beans that have been used for infusion.
DIY Vanilla Sugar
- Fill a container (mason jar) with sugar. Leave 2 inches of space.
- Add a few vanilla bean pods, close the container and shake it. Shake every few days for 3-4 weeks.
- Whenever you use the sugar, just replace it with more and shake it again. You can also keep adding vanilla pods as you use them.
*If you use vanilla beans that have not been opened, cut them lengthwise for more flavor.
